Located roughly at the center of Siquijor, the Cantabon Cave can be reached by trike about an hour from Siquijor municipality, or faster if motorbike.
Its point of entry is also the point of exit. The tour involves around 1.6 kilometers of spelunking, and it takes at least an hour (longer if you’re in a group).
Went here solo, and two guides accompanied me. Paid P550.
The local government requires the weekend guides to be students for additional financial support, which I think is great.
It was majestic inside. There were parts where you can swim, and stuff you are not permitted to touch. Helmet and flashlight are provided.
Longest cave I've ever been to. If you're expecting a cave like Hinagdanan in Bohol, or Ogtong in Bantayan Island, this is not for you. The cave pathway is about 800m, so that's around 1.6km back and forth. Entrance is 300pesos per person inclusive of guides. Suggest you bring your own trekking shoes.
Difficulty in traversing the path is at 8/10. Not suggested for claustrophobics and overweights since there are spots where you really have to squeeze in. I'm 5'7 and 160lbs only yet there were some holes where I barely fit.
Cantabon Caves. Is a truly unique and memorable experience, I've done Caves before but they are always lit with lights and ready made foot paths.
This experience was like trekking and hiking underground, going through underground rivers and rough terrain, ducking down to avoid stalagmites, watching my step as a wrong move could be fatal.
At first I was scared due to fear the unknown and darkness, but my guides made sure I was safe and well oriented to my surroundings, talking me through every rock formation and sites. An experience I will truly remember.
Cantabon Caves is a must visit and must do for daring Adventurers when visiting Siquijor.
Pro Tip: Bring Coral Shoes or Hiking Shoes you don't mind gettingas rocks can be jagged. Change of clothes and a towel as you will definitely get wet and also utility gloves and wear fitness wear. Leave loose belongings at the Kiosk.
I hope the Government will provide funding to improve the facilities of this attraction.
Amazing natural cave. You’ll feel like explorer with the helmet which is a must due to a very low ceiling at many places, and a headlamp wading through the pools, squeezing through tight openings and much more! Great adventurous experience worth every peso!
To start, you sign in and pay the fee at the office across from the school. You are assigned local guides, get a helmet, headlamp and shoes. From there it’s a short walk down the road to the entrance of the site.
The initial opening into the cave requires you to squat but opens up soon after. There’s a lot of low areas which require you to squat or crawl depending on your physical capabilities. The entire experience was really cool. The cave is fascinating and the two guides I was assigned were Flordeliz and I forgot the name of the other lady. They were so awesome, careful and really knew the cave well as they grew up there.
The village is small and your money goes directly to support the locals. Don’t be stingy and please give a tip! It is so appreciated.
Note that you should be in decent physical condition to get around some of the features of the cave. Also, you will get wet.
Very excellent experience with great tour guides. Deep potentially claustrophobia causing cave. I had a slight panic attack but talked myself out and finished it. Some tight spaces for even an average sized adult.
This is definitely one of my highlights in Siquijor.
When entering the cave, you/your group need to be accompanied by two guides (one in front, and one at the back). The whole route can take about 1.5 hours depending on your speed.
You’ll see different majestic formations inside the cave. Definitely worth the experience ❤️
A really beautiful cave with lots of scrambling, great for backpackers looking for an active tour.
The government shares guiding the tours to the local villagers as a source of employment, great work by the locals to keep the town noticeably cleaner from trash than most other places 👏
Price for 2 guides (required and with it) was 500php for 1-3 visitors for approx 1.5 hours for a full length tour.
